Available in June, July, August and Christmas only, this fabulous, extremely spacious property is set in a hill top location just 15kms from Périgueux, the historical capital city of the Dordogne and centrally located between several of the most historically important towns of the region. L'Abyme offers excellent accommodation for groups and families. Being composed of the manor house and 2 independent semi-detached cottages, accommodating up to 16 people. The houses allow for guests wanting to holiday together whilst still enjoying some moments of privacy.

The Manor House

This is a very charming Perigourdine manor which has been beautifully restored by the owners. The property is set away from the road, in 2 hectares of land, surrounded by farms and forests and offers total peace and privacy for guests.

On the ground floor the large sitting room is tastefully furnished and has an open fireplace, satellite television, dvd and video recorder.  A spacious dining room leads into an open-plan kitchen which is fully equipped with range cooker, dishwasher, microwave and fridge freezer. There is a separate laundry room and downstairs w.c.

This site has a broadband facility.

Upstairs there are three very spacious bedrooms, all with king-sized beds, with an en-suite bathroom to each bedroom.  This house sleeps 6/7 people.

The Cottages

  

  

There are two adjoining cottages set on two floors. 

Each cottage sleeps five people, one bedroom with king-size bed and the other bedroom with three single beds.

On the ground floor of each cottage there is a bright, airy, open-plan dining room and sitting room with satellite tv and dvd player and double doors opening out onto the courtyard. The kitchens are equipped with cooker, fridge/freezer, microwave and dishwasher. Each cottage has a shower room on the ground floor with wash basin, shower, wc and washing machine.  There is a second bathroom on the first floor containing a bath with shower attachment, washbasin and wc.

There is also a small adjacent studio cottage sleeping two people.  The pretty studio has a double bed, a corner kitchen and a shower room.

Garden

The courtyard is fully enclosed and is equipped with outdoor dining tables and barbecues for summer dining. The beautiful 12 x 6 m heated swimming pool is located just outside the courtyard and enjoys far reaching views over the countryside and is equipped with sun beds and parasols. The pool is secluded, unoverlooked, fully enclosed and protected with an alarm system.

Table tennis, garden badminton and boules are available for the use of guests.

Nature lovers, bird watchers, cyclists and nature-walkers will undoubtedly delight in the area. This haven of peace and tranquility has seen over 90 species of birds nesting year after year and the property has direct access to many local trails and pathways for discovering the local woodland flora and fauna. Alternatively, one may choose to discover the refreshingly different pace of life sitting back and admiring the views, meandering down the rivers in canoes, wandering through the quaint old towns and villages or discovering the vast forests on horseback or mountain bikes. What ever your choice there is sure to be something for everyone!

Périgueux is the capital and cultural centre of the Dordogne. It is a hospitable town with a lively weekly market and a feast of restaurants and cafés. It is also home to the largest church in the South West and is unique in France. Its Byzantine architecture overlooks the Medieval and renaissance parts of the town which are definitely worth a visit. 

On the edge of the Périgord Blanc and bordering the Périgord Noir, the property is ideally located for the sites of interest; 25kms from the town of Les Eyzies, the centre of prehistory in Europe; 23 kms from le Bugue, located on the Vézère river; 35kms from the famous and medieval town of Sarlat.
